Case Study: Restoring a Failing Pool Deck in Sarasota, Florida

His pool deck's resin-bound stone system had failed just a few years after installation, and several contractors recommended removing the entire surface—including sections of the pool tile and screen enclosure. The Challenge: A Failing Resin-Bound Stone System
The original resin-bound stone surface, installed in 2020, did not contain enough resin to properly bind the aggregate together. As a result, the surface began breaking down, becoming difficult to clean, and developing permanent staining within the first year.
The project became even more complex because the surrounding pool tile and screen enclosure had been installed to match the height of the existing deck. Removing the entire surface would have required extensive demolition and reconstruction before a new coating system could even be installed.
The Solution: Save the Surface, Not Replace It
Rather than recommending a costly tear-out, our team engineered a solution to restore the existing deck.
Using our proven remediation process, we stabilized the failing resin-bound stone through specialized filling, grinding, floating, and resurfacing techniques. This allowed us to create a smooth, structurally sound foundation without disturbing the surrounding pool tile or enclosure.
By restoring the existing surface instead of replacing it, Vincent saved more than $15,000 in pre-project preparation costs alone.
The Installation Process
Our team completed the project using the following system:
Day One
• Floated the surface using Tru Moisture Blok with 60/40 sand to stabilize and strengthen the existing deck.
• Completed all necessary patch and surface repairs.
Day Two
• Ground the floated primer smooth to create a uniform surface.
• Applied a NanoX Polyaspartic Pigmented Body Coat.
• Broadcast our Seaglass UV Polymer Flake blend.
• Finished with a NanoX Polyaspartic Clear Top Coat enhanced with our DuraSafe Additive Package for improved durability and slip resistance.
Final System Thickness: Over 125 mils.
