Case Study: Addressing Deep Cracks and Cutting Expansion Joints for a Cleaner Domino Garage Floor
This project highlights the importance of addressing existing concrete issues before installing a new garage floor. The Leyba garage had deep cracks throughout the existing slab, along with expansion joints that needed to be cut before the new polyaspartic flooring system could be installed.
Tru-Grit addressed the existing cracks and cut defined expansion joints before installing the garage polyaspartic flooring system in the Domino UV Polymer Flake color.
The Challenge: Deep Cracks and an Unfinished Concrete Surface
The existing garage floor had deep cracks that were clearly visible throughout the concrete. These imperfections needed to be addressed before the new flooring system was installed.
The slab also required expansion joint cutting to establish defined joint lines within the concrete. Leaving the existing surface untreated would have allowed the cracks and inconsistent joint layout to remain noticeable beneath the finished floor.
The goal was to properly prepare the concrete while creating a cleaner foundation for the new garage flooring system.
The Solution: Crack Repair and Expansion Joint Cutting
Tru-Grit addressed the deep cracks as part of the concrete preparation and separately cut expansion joints throughout the garage.
These two services served different purposes. Crack repair addressed the existing damage in the concrete, while expansion joint cutting established defined joint lines within the slab.
Once this preparation work was completed, the garage received a polyaspartic flooring system finished in our Domino UV Polymer Flake color.
The Process: Preparing the Concrete for a New Polyaspartic Floor
The existing concrete was carefully prepared before the flooring system was installed. Deep cracks were repaired so they would not remain as visible imperfections beneath the finished coating.
Expansion joints were also cut to create defined lines across the garage floor. After the concrete preparation was completed, we installed the garage polyaspartic flooring system and broadcast the Domino UV Polymer Flake color throughout the surface. The finished system created a consistent decorative appearance across the prepared garage floor.
Why Concrete Preparation Matters
A new coating can change the appearance of a garage, but it does not eliminate problems that already exist in the concrete.
Deep cracks and poorly defined joint lines can remain noticeable beneath a finished floor when they are not properly addressed beforehand. Taking care of those conditions first gives the new flooring system a better-prepared surface and allows the finished design to look more intentional.
For the Leyba project, repairing the existing cracks and cutting the expansion joints were important parts of preparing the garage for its new polyaspartic floor.
The Outcome: A Cleaner Domino Flake Garage Floor
The Leyba project combined deep crack repair, expansion joint cutting, and a garage polyaspartic flooring system in the Domino UV Polymer Flake color.
The finished floor provides a cleaner, more intentional appearance while the preparation work addressed the major imperfections present in the original concrete before the new flooring was installed.
